When I tried to download this one and open the Readme file, it did not work. Any advice?

Si quieres sacar la fecha de arriba, tienes que eliminar dos scripts de la plantilla, que están entre div class=’date-tab’ y /div (con los artilugios expandidos). Mira la vista previa antes de guardar.

Cloe, tienes que cambiar el formato de la hora en Configuración/Formato. En vez de “2:32 PM”, por ejemplo, debe verse la fecha de hoy, es decir, algo como “Jueves, Septiembre 18, 2008″.

Para Publicar el contenido en mi blog. Utilizo el Windows Live Writer. Todo bien. Pero la fecha de Publicacion aparece Undefined. Como podria solucionar para ver la fecha de publicacion de cada post.
La siguiente es Respecto al Widget de “Recent Post” Como puedo hacer para que solo aparezcan 5 Post. Por que ahorita llevo 15 Entradas en el Blog y me las muestra todas.

If you are having problems adding the layout make sure it is unzipped, and that when you browse you select the unzipped file, not the zipped one!

A quienes les aparece un error, ese error es de Blogger, no de la plantilla, porque ya la probé. A veces tratando con Internet Explorer funciona bien.
If you want to see the friends & links widget, add your links there
If you don’t do that, it won’t be shown.
If you want to show 5 of your recent posts instead of all your entries, just edit the respective widget. Link Your feed url for recent posts: http://YOURBLOGNAME.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/default

To fix the date showing up as “Undefined”, you have to go to the “formatting” tab & BOTH “Date Header format” and “Timestap format” have to be a date (e.g. 9.22.08). It uses the Month from one of those and the day’s date from the other; you won’t have a time stamp. Took me a bit of fiddling to figure that out!

but just one question.. i know you have to add the respective gadget to remove the ‘half’ friends and links picture, but which gadget do we actually add? or is there a way to remove the friends and links, because i dont actually use them.

Para editar la sección “What is this place?” debes ir a la edición de HTML, expandir los artilugios y buscar el texto “© 2008″ (sin las comillas). Es la única forma, porque no hay un widget en ese lugar.

I just have one main issue with the template. I love everything about it.. except for the “misc debris” little tag that goes next to everything extra. check out my blog to see.. next to every friend’s blog and every link it is there.. it’s way too much. Is there an easy way to get around it or am I stuck with it? I hope not because I really do love this and my husband who is also a designer loves it too! I think it would be fun next to the headings of the misc. things.. but not next to every line??

I’ve read the instruction and said that I have to download the template through the other website. The problem is the website does not provide the html, they only provided the psd file. Any advice how can I download the html version? Or do I have to pay to convert the file into html?

Heather: look for “txt-misc-debris.gif” image in Layout/Edit HTML and delete that complete url
Galuh: There isn’t a html version. Blogger uses xml.

However…just curious as to why recent posts & categories are locked & uneditable (according to the instructions)? Listing 12 recent posts seems to throw my page off a bit & I’d like to cut it down to 5…plus I don’t use categories, so would like to remove that altogether but can’t as it’s locked (on the edit layout page in blogger).

I’ve worked out how to unlock them but still can’t work out how to reduce the number of recent posts (short of removing the widget altogether)…& even if I remove these, the graphics (“recent posts,” “categories” & half of “friends & links”) are still showing up on my page.

I had the same problem, because I was copying and pasting the code. What I did instead was to save the Notepad Chaos template, extracted the .xml file and uploaded it directly from Blogger. Hope this helps.

I wouldn’t have to leave you this message if I wasn’t such a dumbass in webpage codings. FYI, my HTML knowledge is pretty much near to zero. I’ll just leave you the questions in pointers and I do hope you can help with which ever you can.
1) The Date & Time tab on the side of each post is stated as ‘Undefined’. I know you’ve explained how it can be solved to other users and I did try to solve it by myself but unfortunately it’s still left undefined. Is there any alternatives?
2) The ‘Home’,'About’ & ‘Archives’ tabs on the top right of this template are not really linked to anything. Can you teach me how to link them to whatever they’re supposed to?
3) Based on point 2, since the tabs are not linked, I can’t really access to my Dashboard from my blog’s main page. Would this be solved once I’ve linked everything?
4) I noticed that I can no longer move my ‘Page Elements’ freely with this template. Is this normal? Just curious…

I feel so stupid right now that I’ve solved all the problems myself. Just realized that all I needed to do was open my eyes a little bigger and not scroll down too fast. Thanks for the wonderful instructions. But can’t we still move the Page Elements around?
Okay.. I am not usually this clueless but I have tried and tried to play with everything and can not get the undefined to go away. I have selected every choice I can but it still stays there…

Okay I figured out to update the home/about me problem.
I went into the html and changed the following:
Home
About
Archives
So if anybody wants to make it link to other things just replace the http: section with your own links
Elena…go into “edit html” & click on “expand widget templates.” Do a search for
locked=’true’
You’ll find these are located in the widget code for Recent Posts & Categories. Change the value to “false.” You can now remove them from the Page Elements screen (can’t move them, though).
However, it wasn’t until I was playing round with the graphics that I realised the reason these are locked – the Recent Posts tab is actually part of the background graphic & the Links graphics seem to be a bit of a placeholder. Even if you remove Categories from Page Element, you won’t remove the Categories tab graphic. I got around this by just commenting out the code for the graphics (or you could remove it..I wanted to keep it in in case I needed it later).
To change the number of previous posts displaying on the right, expand widget templates, then do a search for:
var numposts = 15;
Change this number to however many posts you want to be displayed (I changed mine to 5). You will need to save your changes before you can preview them. You can add a summary & the date of the post by changing the values of
var showpostdate = false;
var showpostsummary = false;
to “true”
Still can’t get the search fix to work. But at least this exercise is helping me learn more about Blogger

Aura: Tienes que visitar el link que está más arriba para instalación y configuración (installation and settings). Ahí Gosu explica cómo configurar el menú, y cómo arreglar el problema del buscador, que se no estaba funcionando bien (tienes que reemplazar dos letras en ese código).
Elena: La única forma de cambiar los tags del menú es editando las imágenes con un programa como photoshop o similar. Gosu hizo una traducción al turco, mira-> http://spedr.com/4xpqw

Es probable que esa parte de la plantilla aparezca como “locked”, porque Blogger no me muestra ninguna imagen que subo como cabecera. De todos modos, con otra cabecera la plantilla no quedaría muy estética, especialmente cuando todo el fondo y toda la parte superior de la plantilla están formadas por una sola imagen 
Tried the search fix on Gosu’s page as well but it doesn’t work for my blog for some reason.
Maybe you’re using two quotation marks instead of one
It’s easier that you change “s” by “q” (you have to change two letters).
I swear my computer hates me. I’ve tried several times to replace ’s’ with ‘q’ & the search wouldn’t work…did it again tonight & it works fine! Very strange!

Hola a todos, necesito que alguen me ayude porque estoy desesperada, en su dia instale esta fabulosa plantilla y todo funcionaba a la perfección pero una mañana al abrir el blog había desaparecido todo solo me queda un fondo verde y mis post, he cambiado la plantilla con la esperanza de reinstalarla nuevamente y poder recuperarla y no hay manera, ya se que podria cambiara pero para mi es la perfección. Awesome template! I just can’t figure out how to remove the image link borders. I’ve tried adding img border-style:none; in few places but nothing worked. I would like that my post images with links, quick edit and widget images did’t have the blue border around them.

Sorry Home About and Archives formatted, Okay um… you need to find (a href=’/') for each, replace the / with the link you want. Its just after (var numpost = 15), which it also what you can change to how many recent post you want to show in the yellow post-it.
Hmm…I tried removing coding and everything but the undefined time still shows up for me! Anything to help with that?

Cloe, tienes que cambiar el formato de la hora en Configuración/Formato. En vez de “2:32 PM”, por ejemplo, debe verse la fecha de hoy, es decir, algo como “Jueves,….. 2008/10/24 (yyyy/mm/dd)

salen todas mis entradas y, tarde o temprano, la lista se va a hacer interminable…

Tengo esta plantilla en mi blog, es casi perfecta, muy chula. He conseguido cambiar muchas cosas, a lo mejor puedo ayudar a algunos:
-Lo de quitar post recientes porque miedo a que el post-it se llene, no os preocupeis, cuando llega a cierto número, se actualiza. Yo llevo más de 30 post, y solo aparecen 6 o 7, cambiando.
-Lo de la fecha “undefined”, es simple. Os vais al panel de blogger, Configuración,Formato, y en el formato de fecha, elegís ésta: 07-nov-2008
-Lo de Friends & links, no os preocupeis porque aparezca cortado, en cuanto agregas un link de alguna otra web, se llena.
Ahora vienen mis pequeñas dudas, cosas que aún no he podido solucionar, y espero que alguien pueda ayudarme:
*¿porqué aunque tengo la opción activada, no aparece “Escrito por Dave Strife” o “Publish by Dave Strife” al pie de las entradas? ¿qué tengo que tocar?
*La barra de navegación de “home”, “about”, etc así como el botón de “Buscar” ( que por cierto, podeis ponerlo en español buscandolo en el HTML)…funcionan? Dónde coloco el link para cada uno de los botones, en qué linea del código HTML tengo que insertarlo? ( no quiero cambiarlo a español, sé que solo se puede cambiando la imagen).
*¿¿¿¿PORQUE USANDO INTERNET EXPLORER la plantilla se me mueve todo a la derecha, desfigurandose la web??????

I’m having problems with the “recent posts” widget. It’s not showing anything at all (I posted several test posts but the widget just stares back at me blankly) and I have no idea how to fix it. Does anyone know how this can be fixed?
Ok, so the problem with the blank widget is solved by making your blog public. I can deal with that. My next problem is that there are 3 authors for it and there are no way to tell who wrote what now because it doesn’t say it. Anyone know how I can make it so that it shows the names of the authors? We really don’t want to sign everything because we are just so not used to it.
How do I get the Blogger Navbar to show? I read the Blogger help site:
• add style=”margin-top:40px;” to the topmost element of your Template. (i.e. would become )
• make sure the closing tag is present; it should go before the tag.
but the problem is I can’t figure out where to insert their little scrap of html code into the template html.

For people who have XML error message:
I had this error too, but then I looked up and saw that you can upload your design from you pc. There’s the error when you copy and paste the NotepadChaos.xml.

Por fin logre corregir el error “Undifined” en esta plantilla, para todos aquellos que aun no lo pueden hacer aquí les pongo los pasos a seguir:
1.Configuración/Formato
2.Formato cabecera de fecha escoge la siguiente opción: miercoles 24 de diciembre del 2008 (por ejemplo).
3.En formato de hora escoge el siguiente formato: miércoles, diciembre 24,2008.
Y….¡listo! con estos cambios corriges el error “Undifined” y aparece la fecha estampada en tu blog.
Espero les sea de utilidad esta explicación, saludos!!!!!.

hi i tried importing the xml file, it shows a progress bar and then it was redirected back to the import a blog page and it says below “There were problems importing the file.” so what should i do?

This is a great layout!! Love it! But of course I am having a few issues.
1. How do I remove the image borders that are appearing?
2. I unlocked the widgets and deleted the catagories one since I don’t use it but the image is still there. How do I comment it out as another person mentioned? Or make it into a different kind of list?

- ¿Cómo hago para que aparezca el autor de cada post? Tengo la casilla “autor” en el elemento de pagina “entradas del blog” activada, pero ni así. En el código de la plantilla tampoco veo la frase postauthor ni nada. ¿qué hago?

Shay, to fix the “undefined” problem. Go to “Settings”, then “Formatting”, under “Date Header Format”, select “Sunday, February 15,2009″, which is the 3rd in the drop-down menu. This should solve ur problem.

It turns out that I had to change it under the “timestamp format” rather than the “date header format” but you definitely got me to the right place. I now have dates!
I’ve made the white space in the middle a blank area to write a letter then I took a capture of the “letter” and sent it to my sweetie, shranghila, so I have no problem like you guys. my problem is when I came to the post office the receptionist is a woman (and of course she is like an angel), so I decided to make a copy of the capture and gave one to her and I was very proud to do that.
you know guys, after a week pass of time, my beautiful shranghila has received the letter then she made a call and said :
“Hamzah, I have changed my decision and from the next Monday my school will be moved to your town. it’s my mother, she has been transferred as the receptionist of a post office in your town.”. ( BAMMMMMMMM!!! ).
but!you know guys, and to the author remember the beautiful receptionist?. She sent a ‘thanks’ for this great and lovely template and she said :
“I will never be able to neglect this lovely letter which will make me always to remember a strong boy with the biggest ‘thing’ I have never seen before”.
Is there no way i can show my ‘recent posts’ if my blog is PRIVATE?

La abro con Photoshop para modificarle el color y luego sustituyo el URL del original por el modificado del Photoshop en el XML. Lo instalo, pero no me aparece la imagen nueva. ¿Sabéis por qué? ¿Hay que modificar algún otro comando para que se vea?

Like many of you, initially I had problem with the date displaying “undefined” instead of what it’s supposed to. Here is how I solved the “puzzle”
(I know it’s been posted somewhere above but it doesn’t hurt to reiterate:
In your blogger dashboard, go to Settings->Formatting, change both Date Header Format and Timestamp Format to this format “Saturday, March 14, 2009″.

Besides the date issue, which I wasn’t able to fix with the help from above, the entire layout is off. The “notebook” is being cut off & not continuous on the page. The blog titles on the right are shifted into my blog post. I will not be using this unless I can get some help.
This template is great. The only (non-major) problem is that the Recent Posts section is only available if the blog is public, but mine is set to private (its for my students only). Is there any way to fix this? It seems like it would be simple, but I have no clue. Also, being able to append an author name to each post would be great too!

I too was having a tough time with the ‘undefined’ month and day tab. I finally figured it out based on the comments below. To be more specific you need to go to the Settings–>Formatting section and change specifically the ‘Timestamp Format’ criteria to be ‘Day, Month Day Year’. For example: Friday, April 10, 2009.
Hope this makes it easier for everyone.

I’m having many of the same problems listed above, but I can’t decipher which answers go to which questions. I got the skin on but now the toolbar that allows me to access my own blog for posting, etc. is gone. I can’t even find a place to sign in!
Also can’t find the link with instructions on this page.
Having the issue of Home, About and Archives links not working AND the “undefined” tag unchangeable. Is that where a date goes.

For those having trouble accessing their dashboard, signing in, posting, etc.: I was able to at least get “in” by deleting the page information in the blog address box and typing “sign in” –so it looked like this: http://ginacalvert.blogspot.com/signin. It took me to my dashboard. Haven’t solved my other issues but this at least helps!

I need here is a archive list of category and label in my blogspot. i.e. i could not link the archive to any other stuff or other page since i use blogger and blogger dont offer multiple page except the posting

I had the same problem with the ‘undefined’ for the date… I found this on another website I did it to mine and it fixed it! (http://gosublogger.com/2008/09/blogger-notepad-chaos-wordpress-template/)
I locked specific sections such as recent posts and categories you cannot edit these sections , you do not need to edit too. I created a section for you below the link list section where you can add any widget to there. Also i installed embed comment form of Blogger , if it does not work make sure you chose embed comment form from your blog settings. When you upload it to your blog , you will see times as undefined , to get rid of this problem you should follow the following steps : Setting >> Formatting >> TimeStamp Format and now chose the 4th one and save it. Another thing i have to tell you is that you cannot see recent posts on template while previewing , you have to save it to see recent posts.

Okay, so I’ve fixed the “Friends and Links” part to display properly….but does anyone know how to actually ADD links and stuff there? Not sure how to do this….HELP!!

Saludos a todos, y por razones de espacio me avoco a entrar en materia.
Esta plantilla me gustó mucho, y decidí implementarla en mi blog; y al parecer me encontré con los “problemas” que otros ya habían tenido. Con la finalidad de que otros más no pasen por los mismos contratiempos hice este breve recuento de los “problemas” más comunes y cómo resolverlos:
i) Problema: “Tengo un problema con la fecha, sale undefined”.
Solución: “Tienes que ajustar el formato de la hora en configuración – formato. Es necesario que se ajuste a el formato tipo “viernes, agosto 14, 2009″. Cualquier otro formato dará como resultado: undefined”.
ii) P: “La imagen friends&links aparece incompleta (recortada)”.
S1: Agregando al menos un link, se compone esa aparente falla.
S2: también dieron otra solución para que la imagen respectiva no aparezca “recortada”. La escribió ZergCow el 2009feb13, se puede consultar en un post anterior. Esta solución es buena si no deseas agregar link alguno; la imagen ya no aparecerá incompleta.
iii) P: “En ‘recent post’ no aparece ningún título de post, siendo que tengo varios ya publicados”.
R: Por principio, para que se vean los títulos de los post’s ya publicados, es necesario que el blog sea abierto a todo publico; si su lectura está restringida a sólo sus autores el espacio para ‘recent post’ aparecerá vacío.
iv) P: “En ‘recent post’ me aparece una lista demasiado larga. Son más títulos de post’s de los que me gustaría se vieran”.
Comentario: En el espacio para ‘recent post’ pueden aparecer un máximo de 15 post’s, si se tienen más de 15 sólo se verán los 15 más recientes, y si tienes menos de 15 solo verás los que tienes.
R: Epiphany (2008oct04) dio la respuesta: Para modificar el número de post’s que se muestran, ingresa al código de la plantilla y busca:
var numposts = 15;
Modifica el valor 15 por el número de post’s que desees visualizar. En mi blog utilizo sólo 4.
v) P: No aparece “escrito por *autor del post*” o “Publish by *autor del post*”.
R: El diseñador de la plantilla desidió que no aparezca ese dato. Así que la única solución es que le ‘metas mano’ a la plantilla y le anexes el código; no es recomendable para novatos.
Comentario: Al igual que no aparece el dato del autor del post tampoco aparece el envío por correo electrónico del contenido del post, ni aparece el icono del lapiz para edición rapida cuando se esta logeado a blogger.
vi) P: “¿El texto que está escrito en inglés puede ser traducido al español, modificando algún código en la plantilla?”
R: No. Para cambiar los textos es necesario trabajar las imagenes con algún programa de edición. Una vez hecho lo anterior, se suben a blogger y ya puedes trabajar tu blog completamente en español. Si le echas un vistazo a mi blog verás que parcialmente lo he modificado al español.
Hay varios detalles más que, por falta de tiempo, no he comentado. Pero de cualquier manera espero que lo que he escrito te sea de utilidad.

Help me.. i cannot change the ‘undefined’ time format even i’ve tried to change the time format in formating tab with all time format given. The instuction says it should be changed to this format: Saturday, 5 May, 2009.I cannot find such format anyway. i just find Saturday, May 5, 2009.
I can’t change my fonts and colors(the column is empty), is that normal? please help me, thank you very much!!!
To fix the date showing up as “Undefined”, you have to go to “Settings”–>”Formattings”–>”Timestamp Format” and choose the 4th one.
I know to get the nav bar back you delete a little part of the code. But when the nav bar is there it changes how the home, about and archive tabs look and work, and messes up the search button. Is there anyway around this without losing the navbar?
Also, how do I make those same 3 buttons (home, about and archives) point to what they’re supposed to point to (ie, archives to archived posts, about to the blurb at the bottom, or to my profile page?)

One more thing. The area at the bottom that says about this blog, when i write something in it, and save it, all that shows up is a blue line under the word blog. Is there a fix for that?

I saw that April asked this question already and I followed the instructions, I have the correct date format however it still shows undefined. Is there anything else that I should do?

Kelli- You need to go back to your home page at blogger.com. There you can change your settings. Go to the “Settings” tab, then to “Formattings”, then “Timestamp Format” and select the fourth option down. This worked for me. Good Luck.

The post timestamp is not the date but the hour. It’s in Settings/Format.
The date is already inserted correctly beforehand, but I don’t understand what there is that it doesn’t go.

Okay, I think I understand now that it would be too complicated to make the tabs say something other than “About” or “Archives.” No problem. But I’d still like to know the purpose of the “Archives” tab . . . I mean, how do you link to your blog’s archives? Isn’t archives a gadget that you add to the side of your blog? Do the archives have a url?

Fabio: Please understand the difference between “post date” and “post hour”. The post hour is the timestamp, and that’s what you need to change.
Kristin: You cannot change the tabs unless you edit the images in photoshop. Regarding the archive link… Uh… you might use the yearly archive link. I don’t see another solution
I love how this looks but either want to get rid of Categories and Friends/Links or have them click through to something. I have read ALL of the comments above and am sorry if I’m missing the answer here but I’ve tried everything and nothing is working. I would love to be able to have these two sections useful!

“Cloe, tienes que cambiar el formato de la hora en Configuración/Formato. En vez de “2:32 PM”, por ejemplo, debe verse la fecha de hoy, es decir, algo como “Jueves, Septiembre 18, 2008″.”

I would fix the date showing up as “Undefined”, you have to go to the “formatting” tab & BOTH “Date Header format” and “Timestap format” have to be a date (e.g. 9.22.08). It uses the Month from one of those and the day’s date from the other; you won’t have a time stamp.

You want to delete the icon in the footer, right? I’m sorry to tell you that you can’t, because it’s part of the licence agreement: you must keep the credits intact. If you delete the icon, you should have to put the credits to authors in other place in the template.

What do I do about the About page and Archives page. How do I link to those? Do I need to create new pages for those?
Also, is there a way that I could change the font on the blog title?

I uploaded this..no problems. But when I made my first post, 2 “undefined” popped up to the left of the post. How can I remove?

It is a beautiful wordpress theme, but there are too many people use it so just modify the theme better for search engine when u using this one.

I think this template is beautiful, but I’m having a slight problem. I upload and run it successfully, but for some reason I cannot figure out, the pre-embedded widgets underneath the “categories” section (ie, the friends and links and the gosublogger sections) on the right is not displaying. Not only that, but the handwritten “friends and links” is displaying half the image, nothing more. I deleted it from my layout section, and this did nothing to alleviate the problem. Further, I added other widgets, my profile and such, and they placed themselves directly underneath the half image of “friends and links”.
Any suggestions to figure this out? I know it’s not a big deal, but it bothers me to see it!

Hi Claudia, Nice lay out ! im using this layout for my blog, i solved the undefined-date problem, but im having trouble with the friends & links part. it has been shown in half, and since in previous comment u said that we need to put the links in there so that the thing will be shown fully, can u tell me in which part of the ‘friends & links’ codings that i can insert my links?? im a bit weak at codings, u need to tell me where exactly i can put the my links inside the ‘friends & links’ column. However, I’ve accidentally remove the “Friends & Links” widget on the right and I can’t seemed to restore it back, even after I re-uploaded the template.
At the moment the “Friends & Links” title is half-disappeared and I certainly prefer it to be visible.

Mira que con lo de la fecha no he conseguido ninguna solución. Parece que hay que tunear el html del blog. Aparte de las soluciones que brindas, ¿habrá otra forma de quitar el undefinid?.

Me encanta esta plantilla la verdad pero he estado investigando en ella y he encontrado que el background se basa en fotografias. A mi me gustaría poder ensancharla así los escritos no me quedan tan estrechos. Es posible hacer eso? no he encontrado main wrapper en ningún lado y me he perdido un pokitín…

No hay que meter código en ninguna parte. Sólo hay que cambiar el formato de la hora y leer las instrucciones.
Shash: Click on Template Settings.
Miriam: Para modificar el ancho de la plantilla necesitas tener conocimientos avanzados de CSS, HTML y Photoshop. Por lo tanto, puede ser un lío. Es mejor usarla como está, aunque otra alternativa es usar la plantilla Spiral Pad, más simple y más ancha.
